I've made my pledge to Give A Breath to those affected by lung cancer. Friends and Family - I'm preparing to run my first 5K in 5 years on Aug 8. ‍

 

Why am I doing this? Because the past 4 months have been the start of a long and scary journey for my family and I want to make a difference for a future family and future spouse. Some Lung Cancer facts for you - Lung Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in Canada, and it is the leading cause of death from cancer. The 5 year survival rate lags far behind that of other major cancers. It is hard to detect and early detection is rare. Lung Cancer receives the least amount of funding by donation as their is a stigma tied to smoking but it can effect anyone who has a lung.

We started our learning journey on March 26th, 2020 - after a sudden seizure Pepe was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. Completely out of the blue with no symptoms, a middle aged non-smoker who takes impeccable care of his health - the shock was devastating.

We have been grateful to have some lucky breaks in his treatment plan- a pill that came into play about 5 years ago. A game changer in terms of Lung Cancer treatment. I'm grateful for those who advocated for Lung Cancer 10 years ago to make this treatment plan possible. I believe in future research and funding - to help all current and future Lung Cancer survivors, their spouses, children, families and friends.
