Positives for Brenda Gagne Krause
Dear Friends and Family,
I am going to make a difference! This year, I am walking in the Give A Breath 5k. I am walking because I want to help those affected by lung cancer. This cancer is on the rise. It's difficult to diagnose and treat and it's underfunded. I want to change that!
My youngest sister was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at age 55, in 2017. It was a difficult journey for her, her spouse and our family. The only option my sister had at time of diagnosis was to have palliative chemo treatments so she could enjoy her last summer and be able to walk again because the cancer metastasized to her spine, ribs and hips.
The cancer spread rapidly and aggressively. The chemo gave her just shy of 6 months of life ~ which was awesome considering she was initially given 6 - 8 weeks to live. We were so grateful for the almost 6 months of time with her. Perhaps if she had known about it earlier things would be different. That's why I am lacing up to walk in the Give a Breath 5k walk/run. I want things to be different for other patients and families .... facing lung cancer. I am doing this in memory of my sister Brenda.
The Royal Alexandra Hospital does so much work with patients diagnosed with lung cancer! Money raised from the Give a Breath 5k walk/run will support lung cancer reseearch and early detection strategies at the Royal Alex, with support from the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation in partnership with the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Your donation, whatever the amount, matters.
