About the Outrun the Stigma
Started in 2013, Outrun the Stigma was a student group at the University of Calgary founded by two runners who recognized a gap in the running culture for runs raising mental health awareness. We transitioned to a non-profit in 2016 and the Edmonton chapter was started that same year! All proceeds from this year's Edmonton walk/run will fund the Access 24/7 program at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Every year after our run, we also host a mental health expo that brings together local mental health organizations, prominent speakers and interactive activities to highlight the importance of mental health. About the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation
Established in 1984, the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation provides a way for thousands of individuals and organizations to support the Royal Alexandra Hospital and its number one priority: building better health care. The Foundation funds ground-breaking education, cutting-edge research, next generation technologies and facility enhancements. It also supports a growing number of specialized centres of health care excellence at the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus, including the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, the CK Hui Heart Centre, the Orthopedic Surgery Centre and the Eye Institute of Alberta.
About the Access 24/7
Opened in 2019, Access 24/7 is a single point of access for all adult addiction and mental health services in Edmonton. It is hosted at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and is supported by an extensive team of team of mental health therapists, nurses, addiction counsellors, social workers, peer support workers, family peer support workers, psychiatrists, pharmacists, support staff, protective services and EMS, as well as community supports from the Edmonton Police Service and RCMP. Individuals needing access to services can now simply call (780) 424-2424 or walk-in to Anderson Hall at 10959 102 St NW, every day of the week, 24/7.
